A TV....a really big TV

Once we got all moved into our house we found out that we had a giant empty family room in the basement.  We went to RC Willey and bought the most comfortable couch.  It is stuffed with down feathers.  You literally sink into it when you sit down.  The color that it came in is kind of an off-white/yellowish color and I really like it.  Before we bought it we were a bit worried that the color wouldn't match the existing carpet.  We took samples of carpet to RC's to match it and looked at a ton of fabric samples.  There was a brief moment where we almost decided on a purpleish couch. Whew that was close!  I'm glad we got the color we got.  The day they came to deliver the couch, the delivery men showed up at 7:30 on the button.  We were still asleep.  The dude gets out of the truck, measures the doorway, get's back in his truck and drives away.  On his way to the truck, he told Ned that there was no way the couch would fit through the doorway and so he was leaving.  They didn't even try.  The most comfortable couch in the world left Tyler Ave and headed to SLC.  I got up and left for class and when I came home Ned was tearing out the door frame that goes down to the basement.  He wasn't alone either.  Bob, his mom Gloria, and his cousin Jimmy were assisting him in this little project.  After the door jam was out it seemed to measure just big enough for the couch.  Ned called RC's and convinced them to bring it back later that night and get it in the basement.  Fantastic.  When they arrived, Ned told them they were putting it down there no matter what.  It barely fit.  I mean, just barely.

After the couch was down in that big room, our little TV and TV stand looked silly.  It was probably okay, but the room sort of swallowed up the little set on the wall.  Ned got it in his head that we needed and had room for a screen on the wall and a projector.  What?  Isn't that the kind of thing that is the big new homes, not the old ones.  We headed back to RC Willey to decide if we could really do this. I didn't want to do it at all.  The money seemed frivolous.  After a couple of pretty earnest discussions and a melt down in RC's from me, we decided that it would be pretty cool especially accompanied by full surround sound.  Ned won this fight because I love TV and movies and I have a hard time saying, "No" when the viewing experience would be so superior.  We decided on an HD projector, a 92 inch screen, and six speaker surround sound.  We also bought yard and yards of Monster cable and speaker wire.  Cha-ching.

After all this stuff was purchased, it had to be installed.  A guy from RC's that is Ned's friend, his uncle Scott and cousin Jimmy came over to install it.  They ran wire all over in the ceiling and drilled holes everywhere, changed outlets and really made a mess of the basement.  The project looked like this:
Scott getting ready to install a speaker.  He and Ned found little shelves that matched the walls perfectly.
Ned - off in the right corner you can see the old TV and TV case.  See how small it was?
This is the new beautiful couch.  It's still pretty even though Ned is standing on.  He was good enough to use plastic though.
The whole big mess.
Once it all got done, our favorite thing to do was turn on Top Gun and listen to the jets fly around the room with the surround sound.  I was totally against the idea for long time and now I love it. I could live without it, but I don't really want to.
