What makes your baby/child happy?

A few years ago I was chatting with a set of parents and somehow, we got on the topic of what makes a screaming kid happy. Their first child loved the sound of the bath tub running. They were shocked when the city showed up to find out why they had used so much water. That sweet woman explained that she figured that because she was using cold water instead of hot, it wouldn't count - okay?! Their second child loved the sound of a vacuum cleaner running. They burned out two vacuums keeping that one happy. Their third loved the blow dryer noise. Who knows how many blow dryers bit the dust with that.

The other day while I was getting ready, I noticed that Zoey was quite content while I was blow drying my hair. Turns out that she also loves the sound of a blow dryer running. This was new to me as Abby was happy with a binkie and her swing. I never needed a more unconventional gimmick. I thought back to those parents who actually relied on the sound of a blow dryer to sooth their child, and my thought was, "I don't need that, she must just be happy now. It has NOTHING to do with the blow dryer." How wrong I was.

To keep that kid happy, I now leave the blow dryer running and just lay it on the floor while I finish getting ready. She loves it. I also love my blow dryer. Sherry gave it to as a gift a while back and it is by far, the BEST blow dryer I have ever had (the cord retracts. This = AWESOME)!!! I am worried about the toll my soothing will take on one of my favorite appliances.

The question here is for you mamas. What silly things have made your children happy?

Shelley loved the vacumn cleaner. You can buy a DVD of a hair dryer! I'm not even kidding. You might want to buy it, it could save your power bill haha

I love her chubby cheeks-she is darling. Zack would cry in the car and one time Andy started singing, "give said the little stream" well he loved it so much when he would cry we would just start singing and he would be fine. We even went camping with 50 of the Morgan's and Z was crying so the entire camp started singing it. Let's just say that I don't care if I hear that song in the next 10 years.

Luckily nothing was ever needed for Finley. She rarely cried and when she did feeding her seemed to make her happy-good thing because I was not about to start singing!

Yes - Brightyn LOVED hearing the blow dryer - but I had the same thing - I didn't want my fav hair dryer to blow up so I tried the bathroom fan which worked. Now I bought a white noise CD for babies and she goes out like a light. But there is 14 songs and on number 7 there is a fireplace sound of the fire crackling well EVERY time that played she would walk up. She didn't want the house to burn down and her still in the house. :) So when it's on number 6 and I have to skip to number 8. So funny!!
